Wakefield District's Wellbeing Consortium
The Wakefield District Wellbeing Consortium is an organisation set up to win public service contracts for the Wakefield voluntary and community sector. It registered as a company limited by guarantee in 2010, with a membership of 24 different organisations. A small staff team started in March 2011, funded by the Social Enterprise Investment Fund, based at St Swithun's Community Centre
The Consortium will bid for contracts from the Primary Care Trust (PCT), Council or other bodies (such as the emerging GP Consortia) to deliver work on health and wellbeing, then pay member organisations to deliver the work. The Consortium retains a 'top slice' of the contract to cover overheads, and is responsible for collecting monitoring and financial information from the delivery organisations.
Membership is free, but groups must have appropriate levels of financial and organisational capacity to take on contracts. Organisations who don't meet all the membership criteria can become associate members, which gives them the opportunity to work on filling the gaps, while still being eligible to deliver sub-contracts.
