Volunteering support increases the capacity of local organisation
Eastmoor Community Project has reported how volunteering support from Voluntary Action Wakefield District (VAWD) has enabled it to increase the capacity of the organisation to deliver its vital work in the community.
Eastmoor Community Project is a needs-led organisation which helps the people of the Eastmoor estate to become involved in their community and participate in educational, health and community activities.
VAWD provided Eastmoor Community Project with guidance around developing volunteer placements, updating policies and procedures, recruiting and retaining volunteers, and provided support around advertising.
Dom Charkin, Development Worker at Eastmoor Community Project, says:
"The help has been invaluable to the organisation. We are a small organisation with limited staff resource. To be able to rely on help, advice and guidance from experts has led to an increase in capacity for workers and the organisation as a whole, and means that we feel more comfortable as an organisation in our recruiting, supporting and working with volunteers.
"The difference it has made to the community we support is that we are able to offer more robust volunteer placements that enable people to gain the skills they are looking for, hopefully making them more employable. Volunteers are involved in the job club, holiday activities, and the office, where our current volunteer is setting up new systems. Our previous office volunteer left as she found paid employment.
"Eastmoor Community Project is grateful for the volunteering support received from Voluntary Action Wakefield District. It is always useful and the service is very accessible."
