Potential new community facility - Snydale Road Playing Fields, Normanton

Wakefield Council would like to invite you to a meeting to find out about an exciting potential new project in Normanton. The former 'Bronte Sports and Social Club' also known as 'The Creepers' on Snydale Road, has now been demolished. This now gives Wakefield Council the potential opportunity to work with the local community to redevelop the site for a new community facility.

Healthwatch Wakefield Chair and Board Members wanted

Healthwatch Wakefield is the new local and independent consumer champion for health and social care services. It will make sure that the views of local people who use health and social care services are taken into account. It is now looking for a Chair and thirteen Board Members. These are voluntary (unpaid) positions and are open to people who live in Wakefield District and have a good understanding of health and social care issues here.

Bid Writing for Success training in Huddersfield - 10 July 2013

This session is aimed at voluntary and community groups looking to increase their chances of securing grant funding through writing quality bids to larger funders, e.g. Big Lottery Fund, large charitable trusts and statutory funders. It will cover bid preparation and planning and will look at key questions, e.g. researching need, linking with local strategies (Big Society etc), clarifying outcomes and project outline, partnership bids and sustainability issues.

Wakefield District's first volunteer recruitment fair rolls into Wakefield on 7 June 2013

The volunteer recruitment fair in Wakefield will be the first in a series of fairs that will take voluntary organisations and community groups out across the District to recruit volunteers. The Wakefield District Volunteering Forum, in partnership with Wakefield Council, is hosting the event on Friday 7 June 2013 between 11am and 3pm at Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ.

Active Communities funding programme now open

Local groups and organisations with great ideas to make their communities even better places to live are now invited to apply for funding to turn their ideas into reality. People's Health Trust has opened Active Communities in 31 areas across Britain, and has identified nine areas in the Wakefield District it wants to invest in. The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 15 July 2013.

Disclosure and Barring Service to launch new service on 17 June 2013

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be launching its new Update Service on 17 June 2013. The Update Service will put individuals in greater control of their own information; allow DBS certificates to be re-used when applying for similar jobs; and reduce bureaucracy.
